Solana’s memecoin machine is declared dead every few months, but the data refuses to cooperate.
CoinMarketCap’s Chain Ranking page, set to the 7-day view, shows Solana at number one for new tokens by a margin that is hard to argue with. Solana recorded 481,996 new tokens over the week. BNB Smart Chain, the runner-up, managed 222,550. That puts Solana at a little over twice its closest rival.
The Gap Gets Wider the Further Down You Look
Solana’s lead over BNB is only the start. Robinhood Chain sits third with 130,944 new tokens, and Base follows with 85,611. After that the numbers fall off a cliff: X Layer at 23,752, Optimism at 22,108, Arc at 14,004, Polygon at 13,233, and Ethereum at 10,992. I added up the other ten chains in the top eleven, and together they produced roughly 537,000 new tokens. Solana alone produced about 90 percent of that total.
Ethereum’s figure is the one that caught my eye. It has the most protocols on the board at 1,639, yet it launched fewer than 11,000 tokens, which means Solana created about 44 times as many. Solana does this with only 281 protocols, against BNB’s 1,006. Fewer venues are producing far more tokens, which points to a small number of launch platforms doing most of the work.
Active Tokens Tell the Same Story
New tokens can be abandoned within hours, so I also looked at the active token count, which is a better test of whether anyone is paying attention. Solana leads again with 690,575 active tokens, against 286,023 for BNB, a ratio of about 2.4 to one. Robinhood Chain has 175,945 and Base 109,104. This isn’t just a pile of tokens nobody touches, at least by CoinMarketCap’s count.
Traders Followed the Tokens
The 30-day leaderboard I looked at earlier shows the same dominance on participation. Solana logged 16.76M unique DEX traders, while BNB Smart Chain recorded 3.9M and Robinhood Chain 3.71M. Solana is roughly 4.3 times BNB on that measure, a bigger gap than on token creation. The chain is winning on supply and on the number of people showing up to trade it.

Two Launchpads Are Fighting With Cash
Why Solana, and why now? A look at two of its biggest launch platforms offers a clue, because both are competing to pay people for participating. Stonk, which operates StonkFun, announced on X that it has sent over $90,000,000 in rewards to holders of its reward coins.
Two days before that, it introduced Community Coins, a feature where each meme launched in Community Mode shares 33 percent of its holder rewards among eligible community holders, with the other 67 percent going to the meme’s own holders.
Pump.fun is making a different pitch. The platform says more than $14,000,000 has been awarded to callers on its app, summed up in a line I couldn’t help noticing: buy a token, share your rationale, get paid.
These are the platforms’ own figures, and I have no way to verify them from a screenshot.
What the Incentives Really Buy
I see a pattern here. Launchpads that pay holders and callers give users a reason to create tokens and to promote them, and a flood of new tokens is the predictable result. Rewards also change who shows up. When a platform pays for holding or for posting a rationale, some of the activity comes from people chasing the payout, not conviction in the token itself.
That is my main caution. A count of 481,996 new tokens says plenty about how cheap and attractive launching on Solana has become, but nothing about whether those tokens hold value. Most memecoins fade fast, and the traders who cycled through them often fade with them. Reward programs can also be dialed back, and if the payouts shrink, the token count could fall as quickly as it rose.
The Bottom Line
For now, the lead is real. Solana is producing more tokens, hosting more active ones, and attracting more traders than any other chain on the board, and the gap over BNB is wide on all three counts. The next few weeks of data will show whether the reward-driven launch boom is a durable shift or a sugar rush. If the 7-day numbers hold up through the next snapshot, I would stop calling this a spike.
